How do I replace the speaker cushions?
  1. Remove the ear cups from the headband frame.
  2. Put one end of the new speaker cushion material into the plastic groove on the ear cup and hold it in place.
  3. Pull and stretch the rest of the speaker cushion around the groove until the material is fully in it. To make sure that the material is correctly in place, give the speaker cushion a light turn.
  4. Put the ear cups back into the headband frame.
  5. Make sure that the ear cups are correctly in place. When you extend the microphone, it must be pointing away from the RIG logo on the headband frame and not towards it.

There is no stereo sound
  1. Insert the headset wire into the device or controller correctly. If necessary, unplug it and plug it back in.
    • When the wire is correctly inserted into the controller port, you see the Audio option in the Settings menu.
    • If it is not recognized, there can be a problem with the controller's headset port. Test another controller.
  2. Test the headset with another source that has a headset connection, like a mobile phone, a tablet or a laptop.
  3. If you are still having issues getting stereo sound, contact the support team.
The audio is distorted on Xbox

Check the basic connections

  1. Insert the headset's 3.5mm jack into the device or controller correctly. If necessary, unplug it and plug it back in.
  2. Insert the other side of the wire on the headset correctly.
    • When the jack is correctly inserted into the Xbox controller port, you hear a soft click and you see the Audio option in the Settings menu.
    • If it is not recognized, there can be a problem with the controller's headset port. Test another controller.
  3. Test the headset with another source that has a headset connection, like a mobile phone, a tablet or a laptop.
  4. If there is an issue when you use another source, adjust the volume on the headset to decrease the distortion. If you need to lower the volume to the point where it is too quiet to remove the distortion, this can indicate a damaged driver. Contact the support team.
    If there is no issue, there can be a problem with the volume settings on the console.

Check the volume settings on the console

By default, when you first plug in a headset, the Xbox sets the volume at a mid-level.

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. Go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output.
  3. Adjust the volume. If you hear a distortion, lower it and if it is too low, increase it. We do not recommend testing the volume at the highest levels.

The audio only comes out of one headphone

This problem can happen if the audio output of your console is set to Chat Audio.

  1. Go to the settings of your console.
    • On PlayStation 4: Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Output to Headphones.
    • On PlayStation 5: Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Headphones > Output to Headphones.
  2. Select All Audio.
What are the differences between the former edition and the 2021 edition of the RIG 400 headset?

The RIG 400 headsets 2021 edition all have a straight 3.5mm / 4-pin connector plug. It makes them universally compatible with all current gaming controllers on all devices:

Check the basic connections

  1. Make sure that the microphone boom is fully inserted and that it is facing the correct way.
  2. Make sure that the headset wire is fully inserted into the controller.

Check the settings on the console

  1. Make sure that the headset microphone is set to On.
  2. Press the system button (PS or Xbox).
    • On PlayStation 4, go to Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Adjust Microphone Level.
    • On PlayStation 5, go to Settings > Sound > Microphone > Adjust Microphone Level.
    • On Xbox, go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output.
  3. Turn the microphone level up and test if it works.

Check the headset on another device

  1. Plug your RIG headset into your mobile phone or any other device with a 3.5mm headset jack.
  2. Make a test call. If the other person can hear you, there can be an issue with your controller's headset jack. Try the headset with another controller.
  3. If the headset doesn't work with the other device, there can be an issue with the microphone on the headset. Contact the support team.
